Forum: GratefulDead Subject: One of Kieth's best ever ...

Hard to believe it's actually true, one of my all time favorites being released officially.....This is one freakin' great performance. A dominating pick that I have loved ever since I first dove into the deep end of the pool(along with the better part of November and December 1972).
,
I really hope that BRUTAL cut in TOO is fixed or nonexistent on the new transfer. The missing part of Jack Straw is rough as well, but that hack in TOO just plain hurts.....Here is my original post from November 2010.

"Aahhh yes, fall 1972…..Again…I couldn’t help it. This is yet another pure masterpiece from the era. I think this is one of Keith’s best shows, and he really shines brightly throughout. I’m not sure what exactly has held this show up from being an official release, but I think it may be the ungodly cuts during TOO and Jack Straw. They are brutal, but what can you do. Cheers!"

So it was Vol 11 of the Dick didnt pick series and Vol 11 of Daves Picks. Man, Dave has no originality. Why he didnt call his series Daves Faves Ill never know

The listening party of the new release doesn't sound THAT much better than whats out there. Or is that just me?

Pretty funny how this one ultimately leaked out. The delivery group checking on whether they had the correct address for shipping.

Looking forward to it.

Dudley -

Are you guys saying you got some type of Email verification that told what the pick was - or something like that?

I can't find the actual announcement anywhere, that's why I'm asking...

Always loved this review:

December 1, 2004
Subject: Bird Song
This is a great, great show... here's what Dick Latvala had to say about it.

In Wichita (11/17), one of the best shows, of this period occurred. Garcia is playing with gusto and originality thru-out the show. :"Bird Song" and "Sugar Magnolia" are the highpoints outside of the real goods delivered in the jam: "Truckin->jam->The Other One->jam->The Other One->Brokedown Palace". (the "jam" segments contain lengthy and very unique playing.)

I should also add that the Cumberland smokes and the sound quality is very good to my ears.

I friend of mine attended this show and as a tour veteran, ranks it as the best he's ever seen. There were only about 500 people in attendance and the scene was very cool because it started to snow as they waited outside the venue. Later after the show the Dead showed up at the rotating bar at the top of the hotel across the street for a few drinks. Wish I was there.

Well, well! I thought if they were going to do late '72 someday, they'd put out 9/28 or 10/18 before getting to this one.
I wonder if they had any alternate SBD source to patch the cuts... The cut in Jack Straw is notorious, and the Other One's also cut... But I suspect they'll just quietly patch from another show, if they do any patches.

(Trivia note: as well as being the Dead's only show in Wichita, this is one of only five shows from late '72 with no Playing in the Band.)
